Job Description

Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a one-year (potentially renewable for up to two years) full-time visiting position at the rank of Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science to begin September 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or a M.S. in Computer Science or at least 18 hours of graduate work in Computer Science for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
  • Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student engagement
  • Commitment to implementing effective pedagogy in the classroom; and
  • Commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups to reach their maximum potential.

Responsibilities:

Applicants must be committed to high quality teaching at the undergraduate level in a small liberal arts environment and demonstrate experience or interest working with students from diverse backgrounds. The successful applicant would be expected to teach introductory level

computer science major and general education courses, with the possibility of teaching an elective in their area of interest.

Randolph-Macon College, founded in 1830, is a selective, primarily residential liberal arts college with an enrollment of 1500 students located in the northern suburbs of Richmond, Virginia. It is 90 miles south of Washington, DC and 15 miles north of Richmond. The Computer Science Department is a growing, active, and energetic community of five tenured/tenure track faculty that currently supports over 120 majors and minors. The department houses one of the oldest computer science programs in the country and recently introduced a new major and minor in Cybersecurity. Both programs are rapidly expanding and continue to attract wide student interest. The department values high-quality teaching and individualized work with students and places a strong emphasis on the importance of effective communication throughout and beyond the college experience.
