Role Summary:
Performs maintenance work with the degree of skill of a Millwright; highly skilled in mechanical, electrical, air, and hydraulic systems. Requires minimal supervisor. Performs tasks as assigned by schedule looking for better solutions to fixes and safer ways to complete jobs.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Performs tasks assigned by supervisor based on talent and different projects.
  • Root cause analysis of ongoing, frequent, and costly issues using machine autopsy process.
  • Responsible for the repair of any existing equipment, installation of new equipment or new parts on existing equipment.
  • Perform general welding including brazing and cutting of complex shapes with cutting torch.
  • Perform a variety of repair work such as assisting in furnace and induction coil repairs, machine fixtures and components repairs.
  • Operate all power hand tools and operate all types of tool room equipment (lathe, mill, drill, saw, grinders, etc.)
  • Have basic skills in pipe fitting, carpentry and electrical.
  • Perform other related duties such as: general housekeeping, maintenance of all tools, spare parts and supplies, catavolt entries, and other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
  • Maintains all equipment in a preventative and predictive way (lubrication schedules, inspections of equipment - cranes, hammers, etc.) scheduled by the Maintenance Planner.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to evaluate the work of subordinates. Working knowledge of production machinery operations and capacities.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety policies and procedures. Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees, i.e., training employees, giving instructions. Ability to write routine reports and internal correspondence.
Success Measures:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to establish root cause of major problems, not repair symptoms.
Qualifications:
High school graduate, GED required. Technical certificate preferred. Five years' experience in a mechanic profession, the ability to weld, perform machine work and general maintenance repair work. Ability to read machine detail blue prints. Read and use close tolerance shop measuring tools. Use standard shop math.
Special Position Requirements:
The employee is subject to an environment that is at time congested with product boxes, material, etc. The employee is exposed to the hazard of mobile equipment moving in close areas. High noise levels are present in most areas the employee works. The temperature is seasonal. At times, the employee may be required to work outside.
Work Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, stoop and kneel to repair equipment. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers are essential in the use of a variety of hand tools and instruments. The employee is required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Operate a variety of power tools, pipe threader, forklift, and misc. hand tools, welder, plasma cutter, and acetylene cutting torch. Experience with operating tool room equipment (lathes, mills, drills, saws, grinders, etc.) preferred.
