Description

A State Government Affairs Intern will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day monitoring and management of activities by state legislatures and administrative agencies to regulate healthcare.

How you will make an impact:
  • Public policy and legislative issue tracking and researching in Elevance Health company states, including tracking notices and current events related to healthcare policy
  • Assisting with the creation and review of long-term planning for lobby and business development campaigns
  • Working with internal stakeholders in Elevance Health's portfolio including Commercial, Medicare/Medicaid, and Specialty (ex. pharmacy and behavioral health) business units as well as with individuals external to the company in the advocacy and legislative communities
  • Attending trade association meetings and circulating meeting notes within the State Affairs Department
  • Monitoring legislative meetings/public hearings and circulating meeting notes within the State Affairs Department
Functions OR examples of projects for this role:
  • Ad hoc special projects as needed such as assist with planning company sponsorships of conferences; coordinating company sponsored events or writing white papers/issues briefs for a government audience
Minimum Requirements:
  • Rising Juniors and Seniors actively pursuing a bachelor's in political science, public policy, public health, healthcare administration, health informatics or a degree in the liberal arts at an accredited university during time of internship
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the Summer 2023 internship
  • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements
  • Candidate must be able to work independently as well as on a team, skilled at developing creative solutions and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to read and summarize legislation, regulations, policy and healthcare
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and a quick learner as Training and Licensing will be provided.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent Communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, and Organizational skills
  • Excellent Public Speaking and Presentation skills
