After School Matters provides Chicago high school teens with high quality, after-school and summer opportunities to explore and develop their talents while gaining critical skills for work, college and beyond. Since 1991, more than 350,000 teens have participated in our hands-on, project-based after-school and summer programs in the arts, communications and leadership, sports and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Summary of Position:

Are you interested in public health and youth work? Join After School Matters this school year to gain training and experience in COVID-19 contact tracing for teen programs. Contact tracing experience is preferred but not required.

ASM's Contact Tracing Interns will provide critical support in mitigating the spread of COVID-19. The interns will be trained in the basics of the virus and contact tracing. Working in collaboration with the Program Quality and Compliance Department, Contact Tracing Interns will communicate with individuals who may have been exposed; complete questionnaire to obtain symptom information and potential exposure to other individuals; refer individuals for testing and/or supportive services where appropriate; provide instructions for self-quarantine. They must comply with all training regarding confidentiality and the handling of personally identifiable information; and follow all scripts, policies and procedures established for the program.

This is a part-time position expected to work 20 hours per week starting ASAP to June 30, 2022.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete assessment/questionnaire for potential COVID-19 positive cases;
  • Document responses to questionnaire and other relevant info gathered from interview;
  • Work with multiple teams to execute the next steps and notification process outlined in the policies and procedures in the program;
  • Contact individuals to discuss their potential exposure and provide approved information on self-quarantine procedures, what to do if symptoms develop, and if appropriate, make referrals for testing or other resources;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors and the public in a professional and empathetic manner;
  • Systematically collect and record information in a centralized database;
  • Maintain regular, frequent contact with supervisor;
  • Conduct other related duties as assigned.

  • Equally comfortable working individually and within a team environment that emphasizes collaboration

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience conducting telephone interviews, a plus
  • Contact tracing experience, a plus
  • Associate's degree or two years toward a college degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Candidates with a background or earning in counseling/psychology/social work, education, health administration, nursing, public health are encouraged to apply. Candidates earning specialized certificates are also encouraged to apply (e.g., health education specialist, medical case management, vision and hearing screening).
  • Spanish-speaking, a plus
