About this Job:

Syngentais seeking to hire an intern who is studying agricultural automation andfabrication technology. The position islocated in Slater, Iowa at the North American Research & DevelopmentFabrication Shop. The position supportsthe development, installation, and maintenance of equipment used in the globalresearch and development of field crops and lab activities.

Responsibilitiescover mechanical, fabrication, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic equipment,with heavier emphasis on fabrication. Assisting team installing current designs and improvements on past ordeveloping new designs will be necessary. Work as a member of the FabricationShop team to meet stakeholder needs. Allduties to be performed with indirect supervision by a member of the Fabricationteam and supervision from the Shop manager. All duties to be performed in asafe manner and understanding of required PPE when working on or with powertools & equipment.

Essential Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical and fabrication expertise to research shop activities
  • Create and install mechanical and fabrication systems currently in place
  • Support electronic and automation development
  • Take on a supportive role in engineering and designing applications to ameliorate field activities by trialing personnel
  • Recommend and perform upgrades to research equipment as needed
  • Intern may, as part of his/her role and maybe through multifunctional teams, participate in the creation and design of innovative solutions
  • Intern may contribute to inventions, designs, other work product, including know-how, copyrights, software, innovations, solutions, and other intellectual assets
  • Ensure in its respective area of responsibility and in close cooperation and alignment with Legal and Taxes and other expert functions, Syngenta's full compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory framework as well as Syngenta's own legal and ethical, HSE, Corporate Security, Risk Management and Corporate Governance standards


Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Position requires someone studying an agricultural systems technology program or comparable one
  • A background in agriculture is preferred
  • Hands on experience with essential tools while working on fabrication projects involving, but not limited to, welding, torching, shaping, cutting, and drilling of metal, plastics, etc.
  • A working knowledge of Ag electronics & mechanics including precision farming
  • Pneumatic, mechanical, fluid control, and electronic abilities a plus
  • Understand the importance of safety and shop environment
  • Musthave a valid Driver's License

  • Allapplicants must be eligible to work in the US

  • Experience and understanding of agriculture research is desirable
  • Sometravel is possible but not required
